Drama is the backbone of Taiwanese series viewing habits, accounting for 34% of total TV series consumption across platforms.
On Netflix, this preference is similar, with 35% of the total time spent on Netflix series going to drama content. Trailing behind are Comedy (15%) and Crime (13%), rounding out the platform’s top three genres.
AudienceIQ data highlights a clear hierarchy in Taiwan’s drama preferences. Korean dramas (K-dramas) dominate with 33% share, followed by Chinese dramas (C-dramas) at 26%, reflecting the enduring appeal of East Asian storytelling. Japanese (15%), U.S. (13%), and Taiwanese dramas (8%) make up the rest of the market, but their smaller shares confirm that K-dramas and C-dramas capture the majority of audience attention.
Korean titles extend their dominance beyond the drama category. Among Taiwan’s top 10 Netflix series, K-dramas hold the top three spots. When Life Gives You Tangerines leads decisively, with viewers spending over 600,000 minutes—more than the combined time of the second- and third-ranked series. C-dramas also feature in the top 10, proving that while K-dramas set the benchmark, C-dramas remain a strong alternative. Outside dramas, Taiwanese audiences also show interest in science fiction, crime, and reality content, though Korean series continue to command the strongest pull.
